The Association for Cultural Studies (ACS) is an intercontinental, non-profit academic organization. Its aim is to form and promote an effective global community of cultural studies and to act as a tool for building strong interdisciplinary and transnational connections, offering meaningful meeting spaces for the wide diversity of researchers committed to this field. Among its activities, ACS co-organizes international academic events such as the Crossroads in Cultural Studies Conference and the ACS Institute, which bring together researchers to engage with the past, present, and future of cultural studies research.

REGISTRANTS WHO DO NOT COMPLETE PAYMENT WITHIN 2 DAYS WILL HAVE THEIR REGISTRATION CANCELED.

TARGET AUDIENCE:

The event is intended for researchers, university professors, undergraduate and graduate students, and professionals in the fields of Cultural Studies, the Humanities and Social Sciences, Education, Communication, Arts, and related areas. Participation is expected from scholars from all five continents, with an emphasis on researchers from Latin America who are interested in debates on epistemological decolonization, leisure, corporealities, performances, territorialities, and universities. The event also aims to attract public administrators and professionals in the fields of culture and education who are interested in cultural and social policies

OBJECTIVE:

Strengthen Latin American academic production in the field of Cultural Studies by increasing its international visibility.

Promote dialogue among different research traditions, valuing epistemological diversity and decolonial approaches.

Consolidate networks of scientific collaboration among institutions from different countries, especially through the International Network in Cultural Studies (RIEC).

Foster discussions on the interfaces between culture, leisure, the body, territory, and the university from interdisciplinary perspectives.

Integrate the academic community with diverse sectors of society through cultural activities and the dissemination of scientific knowledge.

Contribute to the training of students and early-career researchers through exchanges with international specialists.

METHODOLOGY:

The Crossroads in Cultural Studies Conference 2026 will be organized based on a methodological approach that combines different formats of academic interaction, valuing both the presentation of consolidated research and the discussion of works in progress. The event structure will integrate keynote lectures, thematic panels, parallel sessions, innovation sessions, and a cultural program, creating multiple spaces for dialogue and exchange among participants.

Papers for the parallel sessions will be selected through an international public call and evaluated by a scientific committee composed of researchers from different countries, ensuring diversity of perspectives and approaches. The scientific program will be complemented by cultural activities open to the general public, expanding the reach of the event beyond the academic community and promoting dialogue between scientific knowledge and artistic-cultural expressions.

The event will provide simultaneous interpretation at all main activities (Portuguese and English), facilitating the participation of international researchers and ensuring full understanding of the discussions by all participants. Scientific dissemination will be ensured through the prior publication of abstracts in digital proceedings and the subsequent publication of full papers in a bilingual e-book, guaranteeing wide dissemination of the knowledge produced.

A technical visit to the Inhotim Institute, scheduled for the final day, will offer an experience that integrates art, culture, and nature, linking theoretical discussions with contemporary artistic expressions. Event management will be carried out by specific committees (scientific, organizing, communication, infrastructure, and cultural), composed of faculty members, technical staff, and students from PPGIEL/UFMG, as well as faculty from other graduate programs and departments at UFMG, and representatives of partner institutions, especially the International Network in Cultural Studies (RIEC) and the Association for Cultural Studies.

The participation of student volunteers in the support team will provide complementary formative experience, contributing to the training of new researchers in the field.
